Kate Peters

Nature Awareness Instructor

Kate Peters was raised roaming the oak woodland forests of the San Francisco Bay Area, getting her hands dirty at a sustainable agriculture farm called Hidden Villa. From the beginning, Kate's parents set her loose into the woods to build forts, catch fish, climb trees, and collect banana slugs. For high school, Kate was home schooled and attended the Riekes Center Nature Studies Teen Program for three years. During this time Kate became passionately involved in the naturalist community and explored such subjects as ancient technologies, edible and medicinal plants, tracking, bird language, and awareness.

Kate recently joined the Riekes Center Nature Awareness staff as an instructor where she can further her commitment of connecting children to nature. Kate has taken courses such as the Art of Mentoring with Jon Young, a 14 Weekend Tracking Intensive with Jon Young and Mark Elbroch, and has completed the first and second Kamana Naturalist Training programs.

Returning now from three years at a local community college, Kate is excited to work as a pre-teen and 6-8 year old instructor in our programs, while studying to get her bachelors degree in Natural History of California through Prescott College.
