It is the Riekes Centers mission to provide students the opportunity to accomplish their goals or pursue an interest, regardless of their ability to pay. Film Summer Camps

Summer Film Camp

Students learn the entire process of movie making--from conceptualization and story development to story boarding and visualizing the project, to production and shooting the movie, and finally editing together a polished project. At the end of camp students will leave with a DVD and their project will be uploaded to YouTube.
Youth Camp (Ages 9 - 13): July 7th - 11th
Teen Camp (Ages 14 - 18): July 14th - 18th

Intermediate Film Camp

This camp is perfect for students who have a foundation in video production but are interested in advancing their craft. Students will learn how to create visual effects, work advanced camera and editing features, and strengthen acting and story telling techniques.
Dates: July 21st - July 25th
Location: Riekes Center
Time: Mon-Fri 9am-3pm, screening on Friday at 3 pm

Advance Film Camp

Students learn and practice more advanced aspects of filmmaking, focusing on lighting, sound, and production design. Using advanced programs such as Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and Motion students will elevate the quality of their films. Movies made in the advanced camps will be submitted to local and national film festivals.

Black and White Photography Summer Camp

Spend a week taking a closer look through the lens of a camera! Students are introduced to 35mm image making, including manual and auto-focus cameras, film, exposure settings, lighting and basic composition. In addition, students receive comprehensive instruction in darkroom use from beginning to end, editing, peer critiquing, and lighting with time for one-on-one coaching. The program includes field trips to scenic locations and one framed image.

Rock Summer Camps

At Rock Camp you'll learn the essentials of playing with other musicians, learning songs, and exceptional performance. Students will expand their musical vocabulary, hone their groove skills in a band, develop technique on their instruments, and learn the art of jamming. The program will end with a live concert and students will get a DVD of their performance.

Dates: June 23rd - 27th, July 14th - 18th and August 4th - 8th
Location: Riekes Center
Time: Mon-Fri 9am-3pm, performance on Friday at 3 pm
Who: Ages 12-18, vocals, piano, drums, bass, guitar, basic proficiency recommended.

Comic Book Art Camp

Discover the vast world of sequential art in the form of comic strips, comic books and graphic arts as we examine art ranging from hieroglyphs to The Far Side and storyboards of today's Hollywood blockbusters. We will create a cast of characters, turning a script into a pictorial scene and completing our own four-page comic book. We will be using an array of mediums, including pencil, pen, marker, colored pencil, and watercolors.

Sculpture Summer Camp

Join us as we create beautiful three-dimensional artwork with clay, plaster, found materials and paper-machet and survey the importance that sculpture has had in the history of art since pre-historic times. Students will try their hand at a variety of mediums and explore both realistic and abstract approaches to sculpting. We’ll also create mosaic art and try animating our sculptures in a short ClayMation video. With a hands-on approach to learning, this camp will show students new techniques for crafting works of art that stand alone and illustrate the beauty and importance of this vital art form.

Super Camp

Supercamp, the ultimate Riekes Center experience, returns! Spend six days in the San Gregorio Redwoods learning the connection between music and the natural world. From the dawn chorus to the late night jam sessions, our days will be filled with experiences that stretch our awareness and pique our curiosity; elements that are essential for the mastery of survival in the forest and on the stage. Supercamp looks beyond fretboards and footprints, notes and nests, scales and scat to the unfolding mystery of the creative mind. No previous music or nature experience required. Activities will range from introductory to advanced concepts in both nature and music.
